Surface Finishing

The Crystal Mark team has extensive track record with development of custom processes for surface finishing. Following are a few examples surface finishing applications:

  • Texturing that improves adhesion when bonding dissimilar materials with epoxies and other adhesives.
  • Reducing vibrations in mechanical components.
  • Micro-machining applications.
  • Friction reduction in injection molding tools.
  • Developing matt or satin surface finish to cut down glare and light reflection. This can be useful for a range of medical and aerospace applications, as well as for aesthetics like with the housings computers and other electronic devices.
  • Medical devices such as stents, other implantable medical devices, dental implants.

Project Example: Surface Finishing, De-burring and Texturing for Back Implants

Images below show surface finishing for back implant developed by CTL Amedica, Addison, TX. This implant is approximately 0.5” x 0.5” x 0.25” in dimensions. The design has a number of sharp points and various geometries to it.

Project Example: De-burring Fish Bone

This is an example of deburring metal fish bone developed by Active Manufacturing Corp., Spring Lake, Michigan as a sales example. The individual fish is about 4 mm in length with bone that are 0.5 mm to 1 mm in length and 0.05 mm wide. Crystal Mark, Inc. was able to effectively de-burr these using micro abrasive blasting process.

Example Demonstration: Diode shown on a Penny for scale

The diode was produced using some of Crystal Mark’s technology shown on the Penny for scale.
The Penny has also been bead blasted to help soften the light thus improving its photogenic properties.
